Welcome to Phonelocator periodic
Introduction
Phonelocator periodic is a free service to help you keep tabs on the location of your phone. It runs in the background and can periodically update the phone's location to the Phonelocator server. Updates can also be triggered remotely by sending a text message to the phone that starts with the word 'Update'. You can also nominate a friend to receive a 'buddy message' when the SIM card in your phone is changed. If your phone is stolen and the SIM card is changed, your buddy should receive a text messaged containing the thief's telephone number.
Phonelocator periodic is not intended to be a real time tracker! It's designed to be run all the time and periodically update the phone's location without a noticeable effect on the phone's battery life.
Signing up
You'll need to create an new account on the Phonelocator periodic website, even if you already have an account on the Phonelocator 0.7 web site.

Trigger updates remotely using SMS messages
Send a message that starts with the word "Update" to a Phonelocator perioidic enabled phone and it will
respond by sending a location update to the Phonelocator periodic server.
Automatically SMS a buddy when SIM card in your phone is changed
Fill in a buddy's mobile number and a message to you buddy on the Phonelocator periodic settings tab or on the Phonelocator periodic website.
When the SIM card in your phone is changed, the buddy message will be sent to your buddy.
So if your phone is stolen and the SIM is replaced, there is a chance that you will find out the number of the thief!
Periodic updates
Rather than recording a trail of where the phone has been, Phonelocator periodic periodic sends
the location of the phone to the server periodically.
You can choose how often updates are sent from the settings tab or on the Phonelocator periodic website.
Modfy settings on the Phonelocator periodic website
You can modify Phonelocator periodic settings from the Phonelocator periodic website.
Settings are synchronized with the phone after every location update.
Wifi / Cell ID location
Phonelocator periodic sends Wifi and Cell id beacons in the vicinity of the phone to the Phonelocator periodic website.
This information can be used to locate the phone if a GPS lock is not possible.
Improved registration
You can now register either from the website or from you phone.
What's changed?
Phonelocator periodic does not record trails
Unlike Phonelocator 0.7, Phonelocator periodic does not record trails.
Some users have complained that the trails feature in the 0.7 version ran the battery down quickly.
Instead the phone's location is updated periodically or only in response to an "Update" SMS message.
Enabling the GPS on the phone and opening a data context is always going to use charge from the battery.
However, if you set Phonelocator periodic to update infrequently, say every 6 hours, our hope is that the effect on the phone's battery life will not be noticeable.
